The Severn Trainee Anaesthetic & Critical Care Research Group (S.T.A.R.) are pleased to be hosting the Research & Audit Federation of Anaesthetists in Training (R.A.F.T.) Annual Scientific Meeting 2026 in place of thier usual conference. 

 

Open to trainees of all grades, this will be an exciting day of talks from national experts at the forefront of anaesthetic research.

 

The day also allows sign off of the mandatory Research and Managing Data of the Generic Professional Domain in the RCOA Curriculum.

Jan Hansel is an NIHR Doctoral Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine at The University of Manchester. His research focuses on precision methods in sepsis antimicrobial therapy and airway management.

​

He has published over 45 peer-reviewed publications and has an H-index of 12 on Google Scholar. He is a member of the steering committee for the Airway Terminology and Outcome Measures group and is a regular peer reviewer for CHEST, Cochrane, BJA, JICS, BMJ Open, BMC Medical Education and Trends in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.

Dr Joseph Alderman is a practicing NHS anaesthetist, and a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the evaluation and regulation of artificial intelligence, clinical prediction models, and other data-driven health technologies.

​​

He is co-lead for the STANDING Together initiative, which has brought together more than 350 collaborators from 58 countries to build recommendations to improve the way healthcare datasets are used when creating healthcare AI technologies.

BUS: A number of buses stop at or near Southmead Hospital including:

17, 24, 76, Y6 (stop at Southmead Hospital bus station)

2, 2a, 75 (a short walk to hospital)

Approximately 25–30 minutes from Bristol Temple Meads or 10-20mins from Bristol Parkway, depending on traffic.
