Emergency Intubation Audit
The emergency intubation audit was conducted at Southmead Hospital in 2015, producing interesting results. As anticipated the majority of emergency intubations were performed on the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Department, with a small number performed in the theatre setting. The complication rate was 27% which is in agreement with other studies of this clinical intervention. This study has provided the background to the introduction of a standard operating procedure for emergency intubation and a website to provide more robust data collection, currently under development. The study will be repeated in due course to audit the effect of these interventions.
